psychological effects of poverty

Beyond the social and economic implications of poverty, there are significant psychological ones too. In Annie Lowrey’s NYT article… …on the lives of today’s poor (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/01/business/economy/changed-life-of-the-poor-squeak-by-and-buy-a-lot.html?_r=0), this quote from a man who works three jobs, seven days a week jumped out:

“It’s hard on my psyche,” he said. “There’s no break. There’s no time to breathe. I always have to think about the next step just to survive. It’s not like I can look forward and plan, because I’m just trying to think about tomorrow.”

In my studies of homeless families, I’ve found lots of similar stories…
