SPARQ

Supporting Students’ Proof in Algebra through Reasoning with Quantities

Welcome to project SPARQ, where we are investigating how students prove in algebra when they reason with quantities and quantitative situations. We are studying algebra students’ understanding of linear functions, quadratic functions, and exponential functions.

We have developed a series of activities for middle school students for introducing them to linear, quadratic, and exponential functions; please feel free to use or adopt these activities with your own students!

This 5-year project is funded by the National Science Foundation’s CAREER award through the DRK-12 Program. Supporting Students’ Proof in Algebra through Reasoning with Quantities is housed within the Wisconsin Center for Educational Research (WCER) at the School of Education, University of Wisconsin-Madison.
