Graphics

In Graphics section I would like to present some 2D or 3D images to be applied to web development, game design or digital media productions. In 2008 I learned to use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Fireworks. Then my good friend Chris Dowling kindly introduced me to the world of open-source software. So I began to use GIMP, Inkscape, Google Apps, and many other open-source programs. From computer graphics classes I took, I learned from Nate Barr and later from lynda.com how to use Autodesk 3Ds Max and Maya to create 3D models. I also played around with other 3D-modeling tools like Blender 3D, OGRE, Google Sketchup, and Unity. In computer sciences courses, I learned to program to draw via OpenGL, WebGL, SVG, and D3. The world of computer graphics is deep and fascinating. I will keep on trying to master all these well-developed and emerging 2D and 3D graphics authoring tools.

These graphics are created with MS Visio. An instructor hoped to recreate charts and infographics from a textbook for a class. Paul and Mark thought I could do it so I studied and reproduced like 20-ish charts assigned from the book. Goal: Reproduce charts and infographics via Visio. Tools: MS Visio; Consultant(s): Paul Miller, Mark Millard.

A D3 Chart

This D3 chart was interactive as a game. It was named "Koalas to the Max", created by Vadim Ogievetsky. If you moused over the dots, the dots would split into 4 smaller dots until they could't be divided any further. The colors of the dots were determined by the aggregation of background colors in the corresponding area. Goal: Appropriate a D3 chart to analyze the codes. Tools: Notepad++, D3; Consultant(s): none.

Graphics 3

This card game was a group project in Professor Kurt Squire's Game Design Studio course in fall 2010. First we brainstormed card types and rules for this game. And then we worked together to create this one-on-one Mecha card game. I learned much about graphics techniques from a Photoshop guru Dennis Ramirez in our group. Goal: Setup rules and build the game. Tool(s): Photoshop, GIMP. Collaborator(s): Dennis Ramirez.
